Samsung has recently unveiled a powerful compact digital camcorder, the MX20. The new MX20 is the first to apply H.264 CODEC to SD camcorders. Compared to SD camcorders using MPEG-2, the MX20’s H.264 enhances video quality and recording times significantly. With the codec’s double compression rate, you get to email or share video files on the internet faster due to smaller size, without sacrificing video quality. The MX20 features a powerful Schneider lens with 34x optical zoom and Samsung’s improved Hyper Digital Image Stabilization, which compensates for the images caused by hand-shaking for sharper footage and a memory card slot for SD/SDHC and MMC+ (up to 32GB) cards. All these functions are accessible through an advanced 2.7 inch screen LCD which helps users frame their subjects and review footage even under strong sunlight. It’s a perfect companion for camcorder junkies who also frequently share their footage on iPod and YouTube. The Samsung MX20, offered in black, white, red and blue will be available in September. Price is TBD. [Samsung]

Canon HG21 is a successor of HG10 as it was built around similar functionality with additional output mode, extra storage and some more. It comes with 120 GB storage. It still carries the same five recording mode as HG10, from the sharpest resolution with MXP at 1920 x 1080 (equivalent to 24 Mbps), down to 5 Mbps for lower but significantly takes less storage. For your information, 120 Gb can hold up to 45 hours of long recording with comparable quality of image to competitors. It is very good for semi-pro who goes to field trip without the need to constantly back up the videos. Landing in Japan next month at around $1300. [Canon]
